Container Weighing Update SOLAS - VGM

As a result of concerns regarding the mis-declaration of container weights, the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulations have been amended. From the 1st July 2016, every container bound for exportation will need to have a verified gross weight before it can be loaded to a vessel. The responsibility for providing a VGM (Verified Gross Mass) rests with the shipper. There are 2 ways to produce the VGM.

Option 1: A weighbridge at the site of loading
Option 2: JSA Global can arrange for the container to be weighed at the Port
of Exit
Option 1: You will need to send us a copy of the weigh bridge note which shows the weight of the cargo loaded into the container. This must be provided as soon as possible after loading. Failure to submit the VGM will mean that the containers will be VGM checked at the port of loading resulting in additional costs been incurred.

All containers arriving at any UK port will be check weighed using the port appliances.

If the container arrives into port and the weight (VGM) provided using option 1 differs from the check-weigh, then a charge of GBP £30.00 will be applied.
Option 2: At the time of booking, please confirm whether you require JSA Global to arrange for the container to be weighed at the port. If you use this option, you will not need to do anything further. We will arrange for the port to weigh the container and submit the VGM.

Unless otherwise instructed we will arrange VGM
The cost for a container being weighed at port is GBP £30.00
